July 13th 2019

‘Italian Choral Music’. The concert began with a group of sacred anthems by Monteverdi, Palestrina, Anerio and Lotti, followed by the Magnificat attributed to Palestrina. The second half consisted of Puccini’s Messa di Gloria. The soloists were Paul Badley (tenor) and Meilir Jones (baritone). The choir was conducted by Alexander Thacker and accompaniment was provided by John Cheer on the organ of Llandaff Cathedral

March 30th 2019

Mozart’s Mass in C minor was accompanied by the first performance of the ‘One World Cantata’ by Ian Lawson. The soloists were Erin Alexander and Rhiannon Llewellyn (sopranos), Andrew Irwin (tenor) and Stephen Hamnett (bass-baritone). The orchestra was the Llandaff Sinfoia, led by David Lewis. The conductor was Alexander Thacker.

December 1st 2018

Mendelssohn’s great oratorio ‘Elijah’ was performed in the Cathedral in a performance to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the LCCS. Conducted by Alexander Thacker, the choir was joined by the British Sinfonietta. The soloists were Alison Shone (soprano), Hanna Bennett (mezzo-soprano), Huw Ynyr (tenor – Obadiah), Jack Parry (tenor) and Owain Browne (baritone – Elijah).

July 14th 2018

The Summer concert 2018 featured Haydn’s ‘Nelson’ Mass and music associated with Coronations (Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’, Parry’s ‘I Was Glad’ and the ‘Coronation Te Deum’ by Walton). The choir was joined by the Llandaff Sinfonia and by Jeffrey Howard (organ) who played the ‘Crown Imperial’ march by Walton and an arrangement of ‘Nimrod’ from Elgar’s Enigma Variations. The soloists in the Haydn Mass were Llio Evans (soprano), Olivia Gomez (mezzo-soprano), Andrew Henley (tenor) and Robert Garland (baritone).
